Jelsa has always been known for quality wine – Plavac and Drnekuša. Every year great domestic cuisine is offered in all restaurants and taverns.

Guests prefer hotel Žardin, where tourists who want solitude can stay there also during the winter, when the vacation season is over. However, while the season lasts, guests can stay in the three camp Grebisce, Mini and Holidej which are situated a kilometer and a half from Jelsa.

Accommodation can be found in many private apartments. Besides good food, clean sea and beautiful bays, Jelsa is rich with many cultural and historical monuments. Church of St. Mary was built in 1331, and two centuries later extended.

Central Square of St. John from the 15th century is also very interesting, because of the narrow streets that surround it and it is architecturally best preserved part of Jelsa. The houses are adorned with Renaissance lights and balconies, and there is a late 18th century octagonal church built in different styles is characterized by: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.

Above the town on a plateau in the mountainous regions in the Middle Ages were built two forts, Illyrian fortress Tor and medieval town-castle Galesnik. Ftom here there is a wonderful view of the Hvar channel and the Makarska coastline and the visitor can see the plains of the Stari Grad, Jelsa and Vrboska.
The Grapceva cave is  interesting for speleologists and adventurer who will there be able to see rock formations, which resemble an ancient organ. Prehistoric sight from the Neolithic Period also is one of the oldest sites in the Adriatic and Mediterranean. The cave is situated at 239 meters above sea level. In Jelsa there is a park built in 1870. and is one of the most beautiful parks in Dalmatia.

Adorn the huge poplar trees and palms, acacia and oleanders, laurel and other Mediterranean herbs. Between the two World Wars was erected a monument in gratitude captain Niko Dubovic, made by sculptor Ivan Rendic. The central place of Jelsa is Pjaca, which emerges from the 16th until 20 century. On the west side of the square source of drinking water of Slatina, which has since ancient times used by the local inhabitants.
